One Step

Steps collected : 1866
What is One Step?
One Step is a campaign organised by young people from the UK Youth Climate Network to help reduce our contribution to climate change. Our aim is to encourage all young people to make a simple pledge, 'one step' to reduce their own impact on the environment.
Check out our cool campaign video!!
We plan to collect 5,900 steps – the number of miles from London to Durban, where the UN's November 2011 conference on climate change will be held.Together our steps will make a difference and help encourage governemnt to act faster to tackle climate change.
Get started by watching this video produced by 18-year-old filmmaker Ross Harrison. You can also run a One Step workshop in your school or group by using our campaign poster, just send us an email to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. What is climate change, who does it affect and what is being done about it?
Climate change is a shift in the long-term weather patterns which scientists believe is a result of greenhouse gases caused by human activity. Climate change will harm some more than others, but everyone will be affected. Some of the most vulnerable groups of people are already being seriously affected. The effects we are likely to see are a rise in phenomena such as floods, droughts, water shortages, crop failures and runaway ecosystem disruption.

Governments have formed the UNFCCC (United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change) to work towards international solutions to fight climate change. They have had 16 summits so far, the last was in Cancun in December 2010 and the next is in Durban in November 2011!
You can find out loads more about climate change by exploring the Make The Link Climate exChange website.
How can you help?
Support our campaign by producing your own 'step', and help us show the government what young people in the UK are doing to combat climate change!Get some recycled material, step on it and draw around your foot. Write on it your own realistic, achievable pledge to help reduce climate change. Cut out the foot and send it to us.

From March-November 2011 the best step of the month will be awarded a £10 Amazon voucher. The group with the largest number of steps will receive a £100 voucher.
