MEP, Jim Nicholson and his colleague from Coleraine Borough Council, Cllr. David Harding, recently paid a visit to North Coast Integrated College’s Eco Club for the launch of their new wildlife pond. The pond, funded by the Coleraine Community Education Project and built by the Conservation Volunteers is part of the college’s ongoing work to achieve Eco-School Green Flag Status.

As I was reading the BBC today I came across a really scary article. It was about the largest freshwater lake in China Poyang which has completely dried up! Lots of visitors would come to see the lake, but it doesn't exist anymore. This has been the most severe drought in the last 60 years.

Young eco-campaigners tackle climate change

On 13 to 15 May, 27 young eco-campaigners met in Ashford, Kent to discuss how to combat climate change.

During three days of residential training, Attleborough High School from Norfolk, the Gilberd School from Essex and Blue River School from Birmingham developed their communication skills, and learned how to plan and organise campaigns, as part of the Make the Link – Climate exChange project.

I read an article in the Guardian a few days ago which was about a group of campaigners who are lobbying to ban plastic bags in Edinburgh.

Gordon and Alison, the two campaigners are working to introduce a scheme were you get points for bringing your own bags when you go shopping.

You might think it is cheap to use plastic bags, but actually once they are thrown away in the landfill they cost £7 million for the Edinburgh city's taxpayers.

I was reading Metro today as I was heating up my lunch and read about this amazing family who throw away just one carrier bag full of trash a year! Their secret my eco-warrior friends is that they "re-use, recycle and compost everything else" that includes "crisp packets, meat packaging and Christmas cards".
