This video is about 'Urban Citizenship Labs' in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
In the poorest areas of Rio - the 'favelas', active citizenship labs have been created in order to bring communities together and ensure that funding for conflict-free, harmonious cityscapes is made sustainable.
By overcoming the lack of social cohesion and apathy of citizens the impetus for change has come from within communities -- through the empowerment of residents.
Through 'Labs' (groups) residents have discovered active participation and become agents of lasting and positive change. Urban Labs enable active citizenship focusing on building community actions to improve the public spaces.
